The
Egyptian Magical-religion
Homepage focussed on ancient Set or Seth*
and his mysteries.
Website aims
To disseminate authentic and accurate information about
the Sethian mythos.
To raise awareness of Seth's role as "daemonic"
initiator.
To assist others on the path to personal liberation - "One
Star in Sight".
To manifest an ecumenical "House of Life" in
the real world - initially in Oxford (UK).
Seth, was the ‘indigenous god’, i.e. ‘the first whose worship
was general among the indigenous people of ancient Egypt. Legend and archaeological
research connect Seth, in prehistoric and dynastic times with Upper Egypt
(the south), Libya, the eastern Delta and generally all desert regions.’
. . .
Red is of course the primary colour of Seth and any deity
with Sethian affiliations. Seth, the Egyptian god of passion and ambiguity
was associated with foreign lands and the adversary of the god Osiris.
Seth was usually depicted in human form with a head of indeterminate origin.
He had a curved snout, erect square- tipped ears and a long forked tail.
Nephthys was sometimes given as his consort, although he
is more commonly associated with the foreign, Semitic goddesses Astarte
and Anat. Despite his reputation, he had an important sanctuary at Ombos
in Upper Egypt, his reputed birthplace. In mythology Seth and Horus were
at war for eighty years, or perhaps 80 days in the year. This is the so-called
“Contendings”, Seth tore out Horus’s left eye.
The story of the conflict of Horus and Seth was one of
the oldest and most important of ancient Egyptian myths. The consensus
amongst Egyptologists is that the myth concerns a natural event of the
waxing and waning moon and other lunar phenomena such as the eclipse.
A theory first promulgated by “East/West” scholar Max Muller (one of my
“ancestors”). So for example – in myth Horus breaks friends with his brother
Seth, Horus harpoons Seth, tearing from Seth his leg and testicles. The
severed leg of Seth gives its name to the constellation the Plough, which
if you look is very suggestive of a leg and haunch. This constellation
has can be important in the calibration of the lunar calendar.

* Set or Seth?
The meaning and pronounciation
of the god's name is conjectural. Modern commentators adopt the Greek
based spelling/vocalisation as "Seth" - which from evidence
in the Theban Magical Library (known also as the Greek Magical Papyri)
- this spelling was accepted by the Egyptian priests as an authentic name
of power (See Supernatural Assault for citation).
